About the Multiplex 10 Cinemas

The Multiplex 10 Cinemas is a (fictional) theater located in an unknown Chicago suburb. For information about the staff of the Multiplex 10, please check out the Cast pages.

About the Comic Strip

Multiplex is a digitally-illustrated comic strip about the staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas and the movies that play there. It has been running continuously since July 5, 2005. Multiplex currently updates twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

A unique blend of humor, movie (and movie theater industry) commentary and criticism, and heart-felt teen drama, Multiplex is best read from the beginning, either with the archives or with the Multiplex eBook. The first eBook collects the first 24 strips plus new, exclusive strips — sort of like Multiplex: The Extended Edition. You can read it FREE in your browser, here.

Some frequently asked questions about Multiplex can be found in this thread in the Multiplex forums.

Multiplex currently averages over 6,600 visitors per day and 37,000 pageviews per day (numbers represent averages from July, 2008). According to a November 2007 reader survey, Multiplex readers are 49% male/51% female and over 70% are between 25 years old or younger.

About the Cartoonist

Gordon McAlpin lives in Chicago, Illinois, where he works as a freelance designer, production artist, and illustrator. From 2004–2006, Gordon created Stripped Books, a series of non-fiction strips covering book- and comics-related events in comics form. Multiplex began in July, 2005, and is Gordon’s first on-going comic strip.

Gordon also does a bit of freelance writing now and then, and, along with fellow movie webcartoonists Tom Brazelton (Theater Hopper) and Joe Dunn (Joe Loves Crappy Movies), co-hosts The Triple Feature Talkcast every Monday night at 9 pm Central Time.

Gordon draws Multiplex in Adobe Illustrator CS3 and a regular ol' mouse. He currently owns a dual 2 GHz PowerMac G5 running OSX 10.5.
