Yes, it's true. Or, actually, it's only half-true: they're making two films based on Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira -- and the first is being fast tracked for a summer 2009 release. And, yes, I know the comics came first (or started first, since the movie came out while the story was still being serialized), so it's really based on those, not the movie, but Kurt isn't into comics, so it's the sort of detail he wouldn't really know about. (The real reason: I needed to keep that line shorter to fit in the balloon, so I had Kurt gloss those aspects of the news item over in order to get to the yelling quicker.)
