Technically apparatus theory is derived from psychoanalytic film theory or something like that, but anyway, apparatus theory was one of the dominant approaches to film theory in the 1970’s, though it has since been fallen out of favor. A lot of it has to do with the phallus and castration, and I’m not even making this shit up.
(I’m taking a Moving Images Media Studies class right now. It’s working its way into the strip, apparently.)
